This timeline shows the historical context leading up to and during the Bracero Program. These key historical events provide context as to the push factors for Mexicans wanting to leave, such as political instability, lack of job opportunities, and economic problems (A Latinx Resource Guide, n.d.). The United States was in need of laborers to take over for those workers who were forced to go overseas for both world wars or those of Japanese descent that were placed in internment camps, which in part is what led to the bilateral agreement that granted Mexicans temporary visas from 1942 to 1964.
